Abnormal chest X-ray

I had a pre surgery chest X-ray yesterday and the results showed a 14mm lung nodule poorly visible in right apex. Only visible at all front front view.
My PCP has told me to have my surgery done as scheduled in 3 weeks. Surgery is to clip a brain aneurysm. Then I can follow up with a CT scan. I am nervous! I have no lung symptoms but now I am afraid that I may also have early stage lung cancer.
Any thoughts about these findings?

Re: Abnormal chest X-ray

Hey DebraH,

It sounds like you have everything lined up to find out your dx. You have done what you needed to do. Now you have to wait. That's the hard part - waiting. Concentrate on the treatments that are available if you need them. Believe me, if you have cancer, the docs will jump right on it.

I just went through a similar situation following thoracic surgery. My surgeon refered me to a cancer specialist and they promptly put me through tests including PET scan, MRI. CAT scan, Needle biopsi, breathing tests and likely some other I have forgotten. The offshoot is that while the biopsi showed no cancerous cells, the PET scan showed irregularities that in his mind need further investigation, so another MRI and CAT scan and an arthroscopic surgery to check the lymph nodes around my wind pipes. While no cancer was confirmed, my Dr is still treating agressively as if it was cancer, I feel this is the safe way to go, So another week or two and I'll know for sure where I stand. As to the nodule, cancer or not, it is coming out. So get through your surgery, and I suggest you accept any and all tests they want to perform, better safe than a cancer victim. I feel real positive about my situation and you should as well. Good luck to you and God Bless.

Bob
