Hi Im new here

Diagnosed with lung Cancer two years ago and now I am a stage 4 and they want me to take this Tarcevia? It scares me to death or should I say of Im scared of death because it states in the booklet that people with kidney or liver problems can cause fatalities. I dont know what to do. I was getting Alimtia (sp?) and Carboplatin (sp)? and it shrunk almost all of my cancer spots but then I got this little lump that grew rather quickly they would not listen to me when I told them how painful it was but it turned out to be a big mass of cancer by the time they operated and removed it which was about a week ago, I felt great I thought I just about had this disease nailed and then came my Tarcevia Kit and Im all shook up over the side effects. Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated.

Hi I am new too, how did you find out you had lung cancer? I apparently have a nodule that they want to CT scan ASAP and I am terrified.

Re: Hi Im new here

Dear mindy,
I am so sorry to hear about your diagnosis. My best wishes go to you!
I can imagine the frustration you are going through because really, the doctors sometimes are the last to understand and recognize things. I haven`t heard of Tarcevia, but my friend, who suffers from the lung cancer as well, practices the virotherapy combined with chemo in order to reduce the possible side-effects of chemo to the minimum.
I hope it all goes well for you, and keep us updated!

Re: Hi Im new here

Not sure if you're still monitoring thread, but if your cancer is treatable by tarceva that is great for you. From what I understand it can be a miracle drug. Doesn't work for everyone, but some people reported tarceva stopping tumors from growing and even shrinking them altogether. For many at stage 4 it's one of the only options available.

Sideeffects are minimal compared to chemo. The most common is a rash on face and upper body. Seems not too many posters here, but give the tarceva a chance and good luck.
