Can anyone decifer this for me? Liver lesions seen scattered throughout all lobes and segments. New liver index lesion 1.6 x 3.1 cm. What does the term lesion mean? Is it cancer? If it is cancer, how bad is it? Please be upfront and straight with me. I want to be there for my loved one.

You may want to read the experience I went through after being told I had carcinoma in the liver and appendix only to find out later (after the operation) that the lesions were focal nodula hyperplasia. (refer to Anthony John - Focal Nodula Hperplasia and Asthma). I have since learnt that not all lesions mean cancer.

Just make sure you have all the tests done and seek a few professional opinions before you make any decisions. In other words make sure you have the test data and information in front of you to enable you to make an informed decision with you doctor before anyway says 'lets operate'.

Have you had any blood work done at this stage?

when it states lesions it is just stating that there is some sort of a formation there,in most instances is is not a cancerous tumor but something like a possible angioma or something.If they suspected it was cancer,you would have been asked almost immediately to undergo a liver biopsy.lesions could mean a huge list of possibilities not just cancer.Marcia
