Can advance liver cancer be cured???

About 3 Months ago My Dad has been having pains in his stomach/abdominal area so he went to the GP, GP prescribed him with Indigestion tablets. His pain got worse and then the GP referred him to the hospital for a checkup... He went to the Gastrology Department and they put a camera down his throat and they said everything seems ok apart but can see something inflamable, they told us to go home but we insisted his pain is really bad becasue my Dad never complains of pain, if he does it means it is bad, so they gave him a CT scan... When they results came out they said he has a lump in his Liver and it is very big, and could be a tumour and maybe be Cancerous. We were told they were going to have a meeting in 3 days with some Liver Specialist and will let us know more information... They contacted us 4 days later and said it bad news, they lump is very big, and he has Liver Cancer which has now spreaded to the bottom of his left lungs, they told me it is incurable, I was devasted to hear this, i asked how long he has to live, they said, they not talking years, but months but cannot predict ho wlong, they said it hard to say how long someone can live... i asked what is to happen now, as I have never been in this situation before, same time shocked and confused, they said they will get Palliative Care Team, who are people help patients with Cancer to control symtons and care... and a Biospy to be done... a week later when the Biopsy was to be done, it got cancelled because they said my dad health is not good enough to do it and we need to meet a Liver Cancer Consultant so he could see his health... when we did meet the Consultant, it was just total rubbish, we were told there were considering a treatment which is a clinical trial but they dont have NHS fundings for this also my Dad health is not good enough and it worsen his health and shorten his life.. My Dad is 64 years of age, he is a very strong minded person... They concluded that there is no treatment for him and has weeks to months to liver and then we were told to wait ouside for a specialist nurse to take over... I am not very happy with how the how situation is dealt with and they just seem to not care but my main point is, I want to try my best to help and save my dad, I cannot accept him passing away now, if possible I would love to see him live a few more years and see me get married etc... I want to know if anyone know or have any advice for me to save my dad... whether if anyone know anycases same as my dad and has been saved or treated, I have read many things on the internet, where some people have tried eastern medecine such as Tian Xian or essiac Tea which has helped pepole with advance liver cancer or stage 4 cancer... but theses all have no scientifc proof, but i also fear people make these up to scam people to buy there products... I know i must stay positive and strong and keep him happy, we as a family are all positive and strong at moment but we want to try our best and find out as much stuff we can to save him, the world is so big there must be something... Please help

Re: Can advance liver cancer be cured???

Hi, I'm sorry for your Dad and you, I have recently been through the same with my Dad who passed away in June with liver cancer so I know the emotions and desperation that you feel. I can't offer you much other than to say ask all the questions that need to be asked, be as informed as you can and be strong for your Dad.

Thankyou for your reply, it has made me feel better. My dad is getting worse by the day, esp returning from hospital this week, he in went in hospital last week, hoping we get his fluid drained, but they said there was not enough fluided to do that, they also did a **** up on that side, they stuck 4 needles in him trying to find the liquid but couldnt so decide to do the xray after, im thinking why didnt they do that first, making my dad suffer, now he is home and has massive bruised all over his stomach because of the needles... also my dad is vomitting everyday non stop from his chest, and nothing comes out, he cannot eat much, just always sleeping, i think the medecine is making him worse, the medecince are just anti sickness and morphine, before he was on them he was able to walk with me and exercise with me in the pakr for an hour and he was really optimistic about getting better even tho they said no cure, but now, he starting to lose hope... im thinking should i stop him having the medecines and see how it goes... even tho they say no cure, i kno wmy dad is a soldier and i feel he can somehow fight this cancer and a miracle will happen, i know this is how we all feel but if good things happens to good people then he should live longer, im planning to get a 2nd opinion, my sister found some doctors that said they have cure advance liver cancer before but will look into his case first, so i have to get his medicial details tomorrow from the hospital... i hate how the hospital is treating my dad, because they say he is no cure, they just send him to palliative care and that is it...

Re: Can advance liver cancer be cured???

Hi again, I thought the medication was making my Dad sicker than he already was, he appeared to be in a cycle of reacting to the individual drugs, it was only my gut feeling and I had nothing to base it on other than my observations. Ultimately palliative care metered out the medication and they were very caring and I feel kept his suffering to a minimum. It's very frustrating and you feel so helpless and useless.

Re: Can advance liver cancer be cured???

Loveyoudad, I assume you and your dad are in England. I followed the brave battle of Farah Fawcett who had cancer (rectum), a rare and difficult cancer to treat. She traveled from Los Angeles to Germany 6 times to get treatment at the Leonardis Klinik from 2007 to 2009. The clinic is often on the leading edge for cancer treatment in the world. I wish you the strength to endure these difficult and trying times

Re: Can advance liver cancer be cured???

Thankyou very much for you reply and advice, i will look into the place you suggested... My dad i sjust gettig weaker by the da, today palliative care and the district nurse came and they decide to give him sterois to help him have more energy and appetite and also make the tumour smaller, but since he had it, he seems so tired and constantly sleeping, i got a friend of mine who does accupuncture to help him with his sickness because all the anti sickness medecine even va injection my dad still feels sick, even when he smells food, or when he sits up, i hope the accupture will work... if doctors cant do anything it up to us and m dad to do something i guess... thankyou for your blessing, i hope my dad can eat, if he eats he can do more activities and maybe even exercise, because i believe if you look after your health it may can cure itself, mabe im being too optimistic but thats all we can rely on at the moment...

yes i know what you mean by hopeless, esp when you seen him weaker by the day... as described below my dad now on steroids, doctors said suppose to make him better ie more appeitie but he seems much more tired, he sleep all day and he can even open his eyes, he says it tiring to open his eyes, he has a weird thing where he cannot swallow food properly, he feels like it goes down slowly and if he eats more, he will feel sick... but when i see him eat a little an dtry i feel so happy... i hope my dad stays strong and fight this..

apparently his swallowing problem the doctors said it could be a thing called thrush?? and they can inject vitamin 17 to help him... i really dont know, but times like these you have to believe the doctors, but same time you have your curiosty...

Re: Can advance liver cancer be cured???

When my Dad no longer had the energy to eat regular food we gave him a flavored liquid nutritional drink called " ensure plus" which was recommended by the hospital dietitian.
