When does Prostate Cancer spread to other organs? - Cancer: Prostate Message Board

My Father had 6 biopsies taken of Prostate because Doctor (via rectal exam) felt lump but CAT scan showed NO LUMP! 1 - Has anyone ever heard of such a thing? Results show left side has infection and right side has cancer. 2 - What does the infection mean??? 3 - Does ENTIRE Prostate have to be cancerous BEFORE it begins spreading to other organs or doesn't it matter? Bone scan
will be in two weeks. PSI was 5.6 which Doctor said is good for my Father's age (68), Gleason Scale is 6 -

My father is 62 and was diagonosed with prostate cancer 4 years ago. He went in for the surgery but they found that it had spread to his lympnodes. Because they do not know where the cancer is they cannot radiate or use chemotherapy. He takes a shot of Luprin 3 times a year to keep is PSA level at 0, It was 11 went he went in for the surgery.

Prostate cancer if caught early and has not spread is 90% curable.

Advanced prostate cancer is when it has entererd the bloodstream and will develop into Bone or Lung cancer.

As far as when this will happen, it depends on the individual. My dad has had it for 4 years and has never been sick.

My husband is also on Lupren. His PSA was 23, but is nearly 0 now. When he asked his Dr. to do a scan, the doc said there was no sense in doing it because this kind of cancer can't be "spot welded". He was originally diagnosed in '95, had surgery, two years later had radiation, and in '98 started Lupren.

I hope the story will be the same as for your father, that he will still be feeling well four years from now. He is 57.
