| Re: Question About Radiation Seeds
The issue is not the cancer traveling through the body, but instead that a (radioactive) seed or two may travel someplace else in the body. It is true there have been incidents of seeds "traveling" but this is NOT considered a significant risk of brachytherapy. The docs will often advise some simple precautions, typically for the protection of other people. For example, doc may advise that post-brachy patients wear a condom for some short period of time after seeding (since a seed could potentially escape during intercourse) and not have very close contact with young children or pregnant women for some number of weeks or months.
