Sex After A Prostate Biopsy

The instructions on my sheet the doctor gave me said to wait at least three days after your biopsy to have sex. It also says your semen may be discolored. Well mine was so red that it looked like thick blood coming out. I am not bleeding from my rectum and I don't see any blood in my urine. But this concerns me. My doctor is there only one day a week so I can't call him for several days. Is semen suppose to be that red 3 days after a biopsy?

Re: Sex After A Prostate Biopsy

That would be normal and may last up to two weeks.

My husband's was like that after 1 week. He thought I still had my period. I said "No that is from you." I was surprised how much blood there was as well.

Re: Sex After A Prostate Biopsy

Thats quite normal for a few weeks after a biopsy. The prostate hemorhages from the biopsy punctures which colors the semen to bright or deep red. Your urologist should have advised you about this. Its neither harmful nor dangerous but can be disconcerting. I assume he gave you Cipro or similiar anti-biotic which is also routine and necessary..
Good luck with the biopsy results.
Bob
