Prostate Cancer Symtoms

Ive noticed im having trouble urinating, i.e. stoping and starting over the past seveal months and erectile issues prior to that. (I have been on a blood pressure medication-Avapro so ive felt that was the issue with the ED). Recently started having pain in my hips. My endochronolgist has checked my blood every six months and has told me that the test for prostate cancer is negative. Im 54 and have not had any close relatives with PC. Can the blood test be wrong? Should my regular physician be more concerned with the symtoms ive described...i dont want to be an alarmist, but it is my health.

Dwight,

The urination difficulties you describe are classic symptoms of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) disorder. I suggest you schedule an appointment with a Urologist for an exam including Digital Rectal Exam (DRE) and urine specimen (possible urinary track infection) asap. After that, a prostate biopsy may be in order . Erectile issues are most likely the result of hypertension medications but, again, this is something your Urologist will address with you.

The pain in your hips may, blood tests (PSA?) by your Endocrinologist (why?) aside, point to bone density or PCa metastisis problems. If indicated by your Urologist, a Whole Body Bone Imaging Scan may be ordered for radiology interpretation of any "hot spots".

If I sound like an authority, it's because my situation is very similiar to yours. I've been through (and continue to go through) all the expensive, demoralizing, undignified, time consuming and agonizing treatment steps toward the possiblity of favorable resolution.

Hope this helps,

Mitch
