Can my father do radiation again?

Hello, my dad removed prostate in Jan 2004, he did 38 sessions of radiation in 2006 for small tumour causing HIGH PSA. He is on Cazodex and Zoladex.
Now again there is a 2 cm x 2.5 cm x 2.8 cm. Is it Ok to do radiation sessions once again or a surgery is recommended? the tumour is next to the bladder.
Thanks.

Re: Can my father do radiation again?

Hi, Rafikmg7,

It is not usual to have repeated radiation treatment of the same area without a period of recovery (4 years). It is more likely that specialists will chose surgery. But it all depends on the actual status of the cancer, on your father’s age and physical symptoms, and on the method of previous applications (seed implants vz EBRT). There are other options of treatment too. I would recommend you to read about optional treatments applied to your father’s case. You can find much reliable information in medical sites in the net.

Wishing you the best
Baptista

Re: Can my father do radiation again?

Hello Baptista, thanks very much for your reply. My father is now taking Eulexin (Flutamide) tablets for 2 months; 3 tablets a day. Surgery decision was dismissed by doctors due to critical location. Best Regards. Rafik

Re: Can my father do radiation again?

You may want to check out cryosurgery as it is the normal salvage therapy for failed radiation.
