Impotence after brachytherapy

Been 4.5 months since my seed implant and still looking for first erection. I am 69 so not a spring chicken, but I thought this was one of the lesser expected side effects. My doctor wrote me a prescription for Viagara, but said nothing to suggest that he thought this would resolve itself.

Anybody gone this long, and then bounced back?(or up, so to speak)

Recovery from ED is a time consuming affair. Give it a chance and never give up. The majority of cases I have read indicate that its "function" never returns to normal levels (the ones before treatment) but they return for an acceptable satisfaction within 4 to 10 months. In my case I had a positive reaction on my 4th month after surgery.
You should continue with “massages” to avoid atrophy.

Wishing you a quick recovery.

Re: Impotence after brachytherapy

Jlambj,
I am in a similar situation after 2 months post-brachytherapy. I was able to have intercourse 5 days after my procedure but has been "nada" since then. I have some cialis but have not taken any yet, hoping to recover naturally. However, I am about to try it soon. I start IMRT treatments next week and am also concerned about its effect. From what I have read, side-effects from external radiation usually take a year or more to show up.

This stuff is not for the faint-hearted, that's for sure! Good luck.

Before I started Proton Beam Therapy it was suggested to me that I start taking daily Cialis in the hope that it would promote blood flow to the nerves controlling sexual function. With the help and dedication of the best wife I can report that so far so good and I'm going to keep taking it and maintain my therapeutic regimen of at least once a day.

I did consider brachytherapy followed by conformal beam radiation several years ago and I was told that since I had already had a RP and suffered minor damage to the nerves that I would be impotent following radiation. I finally decided on Proton which claims fewer side effects.

Harpman

Thanks for the advice. I am blessed as you are with a caring and supportive wife. I would be nowhere as far along in this battle without her. I will consider the daily Cialis dosage. I need to check with my uro if o.k. to combine with Flomax. But it sounds like others are doing it. There is certainly a big mental factor with this since it is such a shock after years of normal performance.

Re: Impotence after brachytherapy

9 months after seeds I tried Cialis samples from my doc. The periodic 20mg gave me headaches. Cialis for daily works well for me (potency now better than preseeds). I now buy 5mg & split so I take 2.5mg/day. Been taking for about 6 months. No obvious bad side effects. Cialis also decreased urination discomfort so I cut my generic Flomax to 1 0.4mg/d.
