Cancer is like that, rarely any symptoms except what the medics tell you.
What options are you considering? Medics will usually suggest what they know best, so a range of medical advice (and books) will be helpful.
Once you have narrowed the field a bit you will find plenty of experienced advice on here.
Don't be scared, it is usually slow growing so you have time to make an informed choice and there are a wide range of effective solutions.
