After looking at all of the treatment options I am leaning toward proton beam therapy. It appears promising for the early stages but after five years the information is a little more difficult to find. Great to find out during my research that a center recently opened up about 45 minutes from my house. Had a biopsy 4 weeks ago, 12 samples taken 5 showed cancer, with 3 having 2 percent or less. Gleason score of 7. Any proton beam patients out there?
I have scheduled an appointment with the proton doctors next week. This is driving me crazy I have read Walsh's book, Proton Bob Markini's book and hundreds of internet blogs. As soon as I settle on one option I read something negative. I will either have the surgery done by a experienced doctor not the D'Vinci method or proton. I just read where once you have proton theraphy and cancer returns you cannot have a proton treatment again. I will ask the doctors about this next week but that has me thinking surgery again.
Have you settled on proton yet? I am 53 and I am reading too many blogs about guys with ED after the surgery, just not ready to face that possiblity. Loma Linda has been around for 15 years but I still have not seen much long term information. I don't they are hiding anything but I need to know. Where are all the people who visited Loma Linda or the other proton sites?
I had Proton Therapy at Loma Linda in 2009 after a failed surgery in Canada. I am sure that I am cured with no side effects and wish that I had been treated there first. They do have information on long term cure rates etc. You are making a good decision in going there.
I think I read in the BOB newsletter that only 0.8% of Prostate Cancer patients are treated with Protons but this will increase as more facilities come online. 10 currently operating in the US and 9 under construction.
