hematuria

Intermittent hematuria
I was treated for prostate cancer several years ago (hormone therapy and radiation) good check ups, etc.

A few months ago, I had blood in my urine. It stopped after 5 days and then I had everything checked out-had a rigid cystoscopy to check the bladder, cat scans, ultrasound- everything came fine. I have some blood in my urine again, but no pain and otherwise feel fine. Can this be a recurrent issue with my history?
Also, my urologist said I have a kinked ureter, but everything else looked normal-also said old radiation scarring can sometimes cause hematurias

Thumbs up Re: hematuria

Same here... Had the same treatment in May 2006 and continue today with Casodex and Eligard injections. I too have had this happen twice and my urologist did the same. Never found out the cause. How long have you been fighting your battle? My last "episode" was thanksgiving weekend and lasted 4 days. You are right in saying no real discomfort but it sure is nerve racking!!
Best of luck in your battle.

Re: hematuria

Hello-

Since 2008- did not have prostate removed because it had spread to a degree that precise radiation treatments and hormone injections (a 24 month treatment after a recommendation/consult from a doc at dana-farber)- but treated locally near my home. Anyway, good check ups and psa readings, etc. since treatment stopped. But the hematuria a while back was really nerve-racking as you say. I get very paranoid and start reading/researching everything- maybe or maybe not a good idea. So, the irony, but also a good thing, is when I went to get checked out after successive days of the hematuria, and the urologist saying he wanted to do the cystoscopy, was he could not find anything bad in the bladder after the (nasty) procedure. Got everything checked out after as I explained and everything looked fine.

So, a few days ago , I had the intermittent hematurias and it stopped yeasterday afternoon. I was told and read that sometimes that may happen. I had a couple if incidents before, and I know it could also be partly exercise induced (a runner for many years, and I strength train/stick to a daily regimen), combined with the kinked ureter and my issues could contribute to this.

I am not on any medication now and I go for regular check ups/labs now about every 4 months.

Thanks for responding/appreciated
Stay strong
