For the past week or so I have been noticing really red blood when i poop. It kinda hurts to poop. This all started after I had one bad poop session. I was thinking maybe there is a tearing around my poop hole and I don't know what to do about it. Damn!!
Blood in the stool is never a good thing. It could be hemmoroids, but get it checked out anyway. Get tested for polyps. Go to a gastro specialist. My mom and blood in her stool for 1 year and her GP thought it was hemmoroids, well, it was rectal cancer. You are young, so cancer may be quickly ruled out, but go to the doc regardless.

After doing some reading I diagnosed myself with anal fissure. I think it makes sense but I will take your advice and try to set something up with a doctor. the only problem is that i need a referral and in order to get that i need a primary physician. no docs in mass are accepting new patients, at least the ones that are near me are not, so i have to wait until next year. i am using a cream now and eating fiber rich cereal to see if this gets any better.....thanks for your reply........
This all started after I had one bad poop session.
I had a very similar thing happen. It turned out to be that I had caused a spilt in a hemmerhoid by "bearing down" too hard with a difficult , uh, deposit . This resulted in
1) an infection that had my temperature spike at 104 F
2) a bit of scar tissue inside the hemmerhoid that had to be removed by lancing the hemmerhoid
Taught me the value of drinking plenty of liquids and getting enough fruits and veggies in the diet.
As always though it should be checked out by a doctor. Yes there is the possibility that it is cancer but the odds are that it is a torn hemmerhoid or an anal fissure.
The bright red blood does not seem to stop coming out. The pain during pooping has gotten much better because of using this cream I have, and so has the post poop pain, but the blood comes out and it is quite a bit..........I believe if it were an anal fissure there would not be a lot of blood so I think I'm wrong. I'm just in a tough situtation because all the docs around me are not accepting new patients until next year and are packed. Is it possible to get a colonoscopy done by just paying for it, without a reference from your primary care doc? I think I may have to do this..........and soon....8-(
The bright red blood makes me think that there's something going on quite low in the rectum. It may be something that could be checked visually by a doctor. Is there a clinic you could go to where a doctor could do an exam? You may not need a scope. I don't know where you live but there must be somewhere you can have this checked out soon. Self diagnosis is not a good thing! Good luck.
Worst case senario, go to an emergency room and have a doc there look at it.(clear a whole afternoon, you may wait a while)
However you could try walking into the office of a gastrointestinal doc or a colorectal surgeon and ask if you can see them without a reference by explaining your lack of a family doc and what your problem is.

I went a a primary care doc and got a referral. She did a visual check and could not see anything. I have to go to t GI Doc next week. This is so scary. The blood and pain has decreased so much, but today the doc took a sample and said there is blood.
I thought all along I had an anal fissure or tearing. Can anybody tell me if an anal tearing is always visually noticeable? I'm hoping this is still the case so that I don't have to have a colonoscopy. Thanks......
I was always anemic all my life but then when I was about 28 my blood count started dropping and the doctor would increase the amount of iron I was taking and then for a few month my blood count would be ok. This went on for about 9 yrs. Fianlly this doctor I was seeing retired and I had to find another one. As soon as he saw how low my hemoglobin and hematocrit were he sent me to a GI doctor. I had a colonoscopy done and I found out I colon polyps. Thankfully only 2 were precancerous.
During this 9 yrs I never saw any blood in my stool at all but if that doctor hadn't retired I would've had colon cancer. Bright red blood doesn't always mean colon cancer but anytime anyone has any kind of rectal bleeding it should be checked out by a doctor.
I think it depends where the anal tearing is. If it is on the inside then you're going to need a scope done anyway. Colonoscopies are not that bad. The prep is the worst part of the test so don't worry about it if you need one done.
It is best to be checked by a doc but it sounds like a fissure to me. You can have a good bit of blood and sometimes they can be hard to heal, because you have to use that part of your body alot. The key is to keep your stool stoft. Fiber and alot of water. Good luck!
Thought I would share that I have an anal fissure, and have had for a few years. It has been a real pain since my dx of rectal cancer and chemo, radiation, surgery, etc. <cancer sucks!!> shouting! shouting!
One way to find relief is to sit in the tub with warm water. For a long while, I didnt appreciate the sitz bath, however, it can allow you to sit in a warm water bath without the whole effort of a tub. (I dislike the fact that some body parts have to be "out" of the water in the tub - gets me chilled!!)
A regular routine of this should help the healing process with your fissure and it should be better in 3-5 days.
Hope this helps.......good luck.
Best to all of you. May you all be Blessed at the Holiday Season!
I had a fissure and it sounds alot like what you are describing. It went on for over a year before I finally had enough it. Sometimes the pain was so bad it hurt to get up and move around, and even hurt lying down! Sometimes there was alot of blood and sometimes no blood. I remember a couple of times it was enough to turn the water in the toilet red I had surgery for it in July of 2003. I have never had another problem since. It does take a month or so after surgery to feel normal again.
Creams and eating fiber will probably not cure it. Nothing worked for me except surgery.
Wow, thank you so much for all your responses.........this really helps a lot!!!
Somebody asked if my family has a history of Colon Cancer and the answer is no. However, my mother did have a few non cancerous polyps removed about two years ago when she was over 50. She recently had a colonoscopy and everything was fine.
My pain over the last 3-4 days has gotten so much better. I have been drinking a lot of water and now I have not seen any blood in the toilet either. I will still, however, keep my appt with the GI doc for Thursday, just to get things checked out (even though my insurance is making me pay 30 bucks, is this normal btw??). I will let people know what the doc says and again thank you for the responses!!
Just wanted to update on what happened with this. I have been feeling so much better over the last week. No pains while going to bathroom and no visible blood. I told the GI this. He said we could not do anything or he could do a sigmedoscopy? I dont know if thats spelled right and I need to read up on it more but basically its less intense than a colonoscopy and he should be able to tell if my problem was a fissure or internal hemmoroid. I will let ppl know how this goes. Thank you all again.
I had this procedure done today and the doc says i was right, it was an anal fissure and it has almost healed now. He said he was able to tell there were no polyps or anything either, I'm not sure how he did this without an actual colonoscopy but whatever. Thank you all for the answers and advice. Take care and happy holidays.

I just wanted ppl to know about my lousy experience. In order to prepare for the sigmedoscopy I had to do two enemas before the procedure. While doing this I messed up my healing fissure . Now I'm back to where I started......pain while pooping, blood in stool, etc. So, please be very careful with these. Thats the lesson so I just wanted to share it with people.
