has anyone had one because of HPV. i have not but feel like i should since my warts are around that area, and they can cause cancer inside there as well. would your gyno do that or would it be a specialist? my gyno also told me as long as i smoke they will NEVER go away. i had laser surgery on them a year ago and took care of the ones i had then. but these around my butt area have came back the last several months. he said acid treatments would be a waste of time because i smoke. aldara might help a little and told me to call him back if i wanted to try it. will these eventually go away on their own if left untreated?
A doctor can do a smear of the anus and rectum similar to a pap. I'm not sure if a GP, OB/gyn, or a gastroenterologist (GI) would need to do that.
Genital warts are caused by low risk HPV. They can be located in various places: vulva, vagina, cervix, anus/rectum, mouth/throat. High risk HPV can lead to dysplasia or cancer. Low risk HPV does not cause cancer. It is entirely possible to have high risk and low risk HPV at the same time.
yes i have both high risk and low risk. so far the high risk has given me no problems. so the low risk is what is causing the warts. and the warts itself has nothing to do with getting cancer, right. will the warts themselves eventually go away if not treated? or will they just completely takeover so to speak.
Absolutely get one! My cancer gynny surgeon said the skin loked fine down there and I shouldn't worry, and when I INSISTED on biopsies, he did 8 and all came back bad dysplasia. Including rectal area. Rectal cancer is very scary and is almost always from HPV. I agree, that they should ALL be doing rectal paps, but they don't unless you insist.
