Does anyone know how much more effective adding oxaliplatin to capecitabine would be as treatment for systemic control of rectal cancer cells that might have escaped before pre-op chemoRT and surgery?
I had T3N0M0 rectal cancer several months ago and this was 1) shrunk by radiation and Xeloda and 2) removed by the usual total mesorectal excision. Now I am due for systemic treatment with Xeloda with or without oxaliplatin.
I'm wondering how much oxaliplatin would increase my chances for disease-free survival, whether the risk of oxaliplatin would be greater than its benefit (for a woman in her 80's,) and whether I could just go back to Xeloda alone if things go horribly wrong.
Thanks for listening!
