Extreme Atypical/Dysplatic Nevus - Cancer: Skin Message Board

So, I had these strange moley things removed awhile back. The results were sent all over the place while I sat and waited. My GP's part-time receptionist called today and read the results over the phone to me "Extreme Atypical/Dysplastic Nevus". So, what is that? I have a referral to the city to see a Dermatolagist mid-January. In the meantime, I still don't know what I am dealing with. Can anybody help me out here with a translation? If this is something that needs to be dealt with right away, I can call the office of the doctor in Edmonton and try to move up the appointment. Knowledge is everything.

It means you should have the moles removed because the cells are not normal and may be pre-cancerous. It means they are NOT cancer right now but have a future potential to become malignant melanoma. The report said severly so there are many abnormal cells in the moles. The moles are removed early while they are still "just moles". If they are left the cells will likely change over to melanoma so it's good you're going to a dermatologist soon. In the future you will probably be told to have a check of your moles once or twice a year.
