Unusual area on face - Cancer: Skin Message Board

Years ago I had both a basal cell carcinoma and then a squamous cell carcinoma removed from my face. Now I have an area that is round, smooth, shiny and almost white in color - looks like no pigment color on it. It is not itchy, sore or growing. Any ideas as to what it could be? Thanks for any information.

I would definitely get it checked out. Does it have a "pearly" appearance? Sound's exactly like my husband's and his was basal cell carcinoma which had to be cut out. I keep looking at his scar which resembles it, but he does have it checked yearly.

Hope it's benign, but best to get it checked out.

Thanks so much for taking time to reply. Don't know if the area has a "pearly" appearance or not. It really just seems to be very white in comparsion to the rest of my face. Does your husband have much of a scar? I can't decide whether to see a dermatologist, surgeon, or plastic surgeon. What type of dr. did your husband's surgery? Glad that he continues to be OK.

Hi, So far my husband has no other problems. The scar is slight considering how much the doc took of the area. He heals really well.

He had to be referred by his GP to a dermatologist. Then the dermatologist sent him to a plastic surgeon because of where on the face it was (under the eye, on the cheek but near the nose).

I would think that if you already have a dermatologist to go see him/her for it first to be determined what it is...then if you have to be referred you'll probably be seeing a plastic surgeon.
The dermatologist might take a biopsy if it's questionable, but I don't know much about this stuff yet. I don't have much experience except with precancer and using Efudex (topical chemo). So far, so good.

Keep us posted as to what happens. It's good you have a "trained" eye..even if it's not something serious, it's best to be checked out since you already have history.
