Question Retin A

I recently had a BCC removed from my arm, and my dermatologist freezes AKs on my face and arms every 6 months. I am 47 years old. I asked him if there is anything I can do to prevent or slow down the appearance of AKs on my face. He recommended Retin A and put me on this. Has anyone had experience with Retin A for this purpose?

Re: Retin A

I m currently taking retin-a for the same reason. I have had a lot of sun damage and the dr suggested retin-a. This is my second round with it. Essentially what is does is makes your skin layer shed, therefore getting rid of damaged skin. Not sure if it is going to work or not in the long run but I am hoping it does I have had three basal cells on my face and see many more aks and sebacious keratosis etc. All signs of skin damage. I am only 33 and this all started when I was very young-26..........

Anyway, I do like the way the retin-a clears my face. I almost feel like my face is now and fresh when I use it I guess it is worth it for just those reasons alone.

Re: Retin A

Motherchuck, what is the strength of your Retin A. Mine is .025% which doesn't seem very strong.

Re: Retin A

.1% is what I am using. I have very sensitve skin so I can only use it every 4 days right now. My entire face peels a lot and I have trouble wearing makeup.........

Re: Retin A

I have used Retin A for about 14 years and it does the job. Had a crusty growth on my lip at one time, Retin A dried the spot up and it fell off naturally with no scarring. Although it is contradicted, I add it to my face crean at night. You don't get so much peeling this way. The cheapest creams have the base ingredients of all creams. With Retin A you need nothing else. Don't waste your money on expensive creams that only have the minimum of ingredients in them. It also takes away sun spots(age spots) if you use it faithfully.
