Skin Neoplasm NOS - Cancer: Skin Message Board

My primary doctor is referring me to a dermatologist for a mole removal/biopsy (located on my back). On the referal form it says "Bone/Skin Neoplasm NOS". I have never heard of that term before. Does anyone know what it is? Is it suspected cancer or just a generic term for the referral? He authorized 6 visits.

The mole itself is on my back, difficult to see. It has been itchy & sore for several months. While hard to see, it appears to be a scaly, warty raised mole that is white. It appears red around the base.

I had sqamous cell cancer on my face about 13 years ago (age 37); I thought it was just a "skin tag" (I wanted removed for cosmetic reasons). Turned out to be cancer. This growth did not look like the one on my back.

"NOS" is the medical abbreviation for "Not Otherwise Specified". To my knowledge, it's a term which can be used to help describe what you are being referred to a specialist for.
