ganglion cyst? bump on wrist.

hey i have not posted here ina while. but i do have this bump on my wrist which resembles a ganglion cyst. over time it has kept getting bigger and is about the size of a penut m&m. if i push on it sometimes it feels like a sprained wrist. anyways i heard u could smash these things and they would go away. well a couple times i applied alot of pressure to it and it shrunk, but in just a hour it comes back to full size. could this be a ganglion cyst
or a cancer tumor? im gonna get it checked out soon but any ideas would be nice??? thanks, shawn

Hi! My husband has these bumps you are talking about. He uses his hands alot and they are hard and on the side of each of his wrist. He did smash one once climbing a tree. It stayed away for a couple of months and came back. They hurt sometimes but not all the time. A bone specialist told him that he could remove them but he would recommend doing one at time because he would have to wear a cast on his wrist for about six weeks and he could not go without using his hands that long so he just lives with the pain. I have them but you can't see my they are down between the bones in my wrist. The only time they usually hurt me is when I type alot. Hope this helps. mingming

Re: ganglion cyst? bump on wrist.

It is probably just a cyst. I had one on my wrist for years. The doctor had drained it with a needle and syringe about 4 to 5 times until the doctor finally decided to take it out. This was about 24 years ago btw. I had it removed with the assurance that once it was out, it 'could' not return. Well, maybe it isn't the same cyst, but it does return and it will hurt when it does. And yes you can 'smash' it and it will go away. My aunt hit my hand with a book once really hard and it went away... for a while. If the doc suggests removing it, my advice is - don't bother. It is going to return. lol

Re: ganglion cyst? bump on wrist.

Sounds like a cyst, and if removed properly it shouldn't return. Properly meaning, that the dr/derm/surgeon takes out the "sac" that the cyst is forming in. Often times people get cysts removed only by "lanceing" the area but the cyst reforms into the sac again. If you go for a removal. Tell them you want it to be removed COMPLETELY. Including the sac it's producing in. THese cysts will burst and come back and peat and repeat themselves over and over. I have never had a gangaloin cyst but I have got what I called "LARGE BOILS" in areas that were very sensitive to the touch. I done my own procedure to save myself the embarrassment. But be very careful doing so because you can get an infection from the cyst, because it is "infected fluids" inside them sacs. The smell is horrible. As is the substance that comes out of them. Antibiotics are usually prescribed if imflammation is seen before even taking the cyst. And then after too.

Re: ganglion cyst? bump on wrist.

Hi Ga Lady!
One thing about having the cyst removed, it will not return as the same cyst or in the exact same spot but more than likely another one will return mm away which can look like it is the same spot. That is what happened to me. I was livid that I had gone thru the surgery to have it return. When I went back to another doctor he said it wasn't the same cyst, but another one very close and also the chances of getting another one is increased when one is removed. LOL... nice to know after my surgery! This was at least 24 years ago though... maybe things have improved???
