Itching again - Cancer: Skin Message Board

Hello, About 20 years ago I had a mole that started growing, turned black and started itching. I had read a article in Times magazine about the symtoms of malignant melanoma. I was going in to the hospital for something unrelated, and I ask my DR. about it. He said it was probably benign and he would remove it and have a biopsy done on it. One week later he calls and says its malignant and I would have to go back for surgery to remove more tissue where the mole was. So I go back in and he removes more tissue and says he got it all. Then he sent me to a cancer specialist and he run all sorts of test and gives me a clean bill of health. Now twenty years later it has started itching again where he removed the mole and surrounding tissue. Should I be concerned.

If it were me I would head to the Dermatologist and have it checked out. I'm not a Dr., but I do know that my Dr. told me that melanoma can re-occur at any time (seeing as how once you have had it, you are more subceptible (sp?) to developing it again. It may very well be nothing, but why take that chance? To me it's just not worth risking, but I'm also probably a little paranoid when it comes to mm.......I don't ever want to have this expierence again. That said, I'm sure yours will turn out to be nothing

Do you actually see someting there, or is it just itchy? Unless there's someting there that you see, it's questionable if it's anything to be concerned about, but even so, you may wish to let your doctor have a look just to be on the safe side.
