Two Year Old Son...melanoma - Cancer: Skin Message Board

I was just wondering if anyone else has had a young child diagnosed w/ a melanoma?? I had a mole removed from the top of my two yr. olds head a couple of wks. ago and it came back moderately to severly abnormal. The dermatologist said it was "almost melanoma" would have turned to melanoma had we not had it removed. I had the same dx. of a mole in 1999...at 23.

How common is this in a child this young and how worried should I be about this recurring??

Oh Leslie, I am so very sorry about your child. I cannot tell you on this site where to seek information. But perhaps your doctor can tell you of other sites or even through the melanoma foundation. I know there has been a recent study done for children who have melanoma. Ask your oncologist or some doctor involved in your sons treatments.

Wish I could help but we are limited. But be asured, there are plenty of young children out there with melanoma, and just search about and you could maybe find a way.
