new mole on my upper back - Cancer: Skin Message Board

I just discovered on mole on my left upper back that is raised, irregularly shaped and several different colors. It's about 4-6mm wide. It's kind of strange, because just a month or so ago, it was just a red skin irritation. A medical professional said it looks cancerous. How long do you have to remove something like this before it starts spreading? Though I'm not sure it's cancer. It really worries me, because my mother died from melanoma when I was a teenager. Does anybody have info on this? I know I need to something.

The sooner the better! Don't wait, call the doctor ASAP and tell them exactly what you posted. I've usually get a new mole every few years and I always call immediately. Have one I need to call about tomorrow, but just moved and need to find a derm. too. Hope you have one you know already.
