I am medium skinned (golden tan) with light eyes...half east indian and half german/irish. I know I have been careless, but I have rarely ever worn sunscreen. I rarely ever burn! I have never worried about moles and there is no history of skin cancer that I know of in my family.

About two weeks ago, I made an appointment with the dermatologist on a strictly vain measure...to get some blemishes shot. Between the time I made the appointment and the time I went in, a very small mole on my upper chest became itchy and red. I could see a little white dot in the middle. I figured it was a bite or hive and dabbed a little cortizone on it. Well, a couple days later, it had a dark shadow (halo?) around it the size of a half dollar and the skin began to flake. So, while I was in the derms office I showed him. He biopsied it and cauterized it and told me he would call me if anything came up.

Three days later (after biopsy), I woke up with swollen lymph nodes. A few days later, pain in my left pectoral muscle and still swollen lymph nodes (but also congestion and scratchy throat). This Monday, I got a call from the derm that the mole was severely atypical lengitinous melanocytic nevi and the pathologist was unable to rule out melanoma in situ. So, they referred me to a plastic surgeon to remove it because of where it is. I have an appointment next Tuesday.

In the meantime, I start reading and freaking out. I am afraid that when they biopsied the mole, it spread to my lymph nodes...is this possible to happen this fast? Today, two weeks since the biopsy and 10 days since I woke up with swollen lymph nodes, they are still swollen. If I touch the spot of biopsy, I feel pain in my left pect under my clavicle.

I am scared...if it is moving this fast...if it is possible...the waiting is so difficult!
