Red face Painful Mole

Hi.

I was hoping that someone would please help me figure this out.

I'm sure it's not skin cancer, I wasn't sure though which other forum to post this in.

I have a mole, it wasn't always there, I'm 23/F and it appeared a few years ago, it's always been very pale pink color and I noticed a few months ago that it would have a hair, one single ugly hair growing out of it.

This mole is on the inside of my right thigh, it's embarassing enough having one there, and then to have one little hair..

so I will pluck it out.

Last time I went to pluck it out there were 2 hairs- now how does that happen? I was quite disappointed.

But about 2 weeks after I plucked out those 2 hairs it started itching, and it was scabbed over. It's painful, and it also is bright red now and not pink anymore.

How do I know if this is an ingrown hair? I don't see any hair on it at all. Could be ingrown then, right?

I am the classic, don't have insurance, don't have a doctor kind of gal.

Is this worrisome enough to go see a Dr? Wouldn't I have to see a skin specialist?

I know it was only one hair, but it's right by my.. special place- haha, and it makes me feel unattractive- I wish I had just left it alone now.

The pain is just getting worse everyday, even when I'm not moving I can feel it burn.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Re: Painful Mole

Hi heartsonfire,

On thing I can tell you - according to my dermatologist, if a mole has a hair growing out of it, it is very unlilkly cancer - reason being, if the mole was cancerous, the hair follilce would be dead.
That being said, you most likely irritated it, when plucking the hair out. You really should try to get to a Dr - it sounds like it may have become infected, and that needs medication.
If it's something you would like removed, since it's in a bad place - is there some type of clinic in your area that serves those without insurance?
Also, at one time I asked my Dermatologist how much it would cost my son, who was also without insurance to be looked at, and they said when I call to make the appointment, tell them he doesn't have insurance, and they would work something out.

Please try and get it looked at - it sounds like it's not getting better - just worse.

I hope this has helped. Best wishes.

Mary

Mole is expanding/trouble swallowing/twitching tongue/face

Hi,

I previously posted about a painful mole which I thought might have an ingrown hair. For a while it seemed to have been better, the pain was much less and the mole seemed to have shrunk in size, and was back to it's normal shade of pale pink. Now it is bright red, very painful and a bump/lump has grown beneath/next to it. It is very painful and I am sure it is probably an infection, but from what I don't know. Any home remedies to soothe it over while I wait for a Dr's visit? I don't have insurance (classic!) and I'm not about to get it either.

I have had twitching of my tongue on the left side, it feels almost thick, and it's a bit hard to speak when this happens every now and then. It's become more and more frequent. My left arm is becoming weaker it seems. I can't do much with it compared to my right arm without it becoming tight, in pain or just too weak to keep going. Such as working out, typing, holding the steering wheel. I also have some twitching in the hand, & I get a very strange sensation in the muscle that I can't explain.

Not every day, but often enough for me to notice, I feel as though I have forgotten how to swallow. Not me, but when I swallow, my throat seems to just stop working half way through and I choke. I can't explain that as much either, it's very strange. It's not as if the liquid/food has gone down the wrong tube, it's as if my throat just stops functioning half way through.

Any clues as to what the weakening of arm and twitching/trouble swallowing could be I would be very grateful. Thank you.

Re: Painful Mole

Moles can become irritated just like any thing else. If it doesn't clear up after a bit of time - you should have it checked. There are the ABCDE's of skin cancer - follow those for signs and symptoms. But like everything else - nothing is fool proof - so even if your situation doesn't fit the ABCDE's - and you are still worried - go get it checked.

As for no insurance - maybe you could call the derms in your area and see if they will work with you on the pay.

wishing you the best.
