swollen foot from skin biopsy

About 3 weeks ago, I had a biopsy done just above the ankle close to my shin bone on the right leg.. It's finally scabbed over and most of the red inflamation is gone but a few days after the biopsy, when I was returning home from a walk with my husband, my foot started to hurt on the upper right hand side and swelling set in. I hadn't twisted or done anything to it for this to occur. I thought it might have been because of the biopsy but it is still swelling as soon as I get up in the morning and is painful to walk on. I was hoping that since my leg is healing, that the foot would also be ok but that isn't happening. As far as I know, I don't have any heart problems. I'm not diabetic. I'm not on any prescription drugs. Hope someone can suggest a cause or if I do go to a Dr., what kind should I see? Thanks.

Re: swollen foot from skin biopsy

Hi!

You don't say specifically what kind of biopsy was done in the area. Did you have a simple topical skin biopsy? (mole removal) Or have you had something more extreme, such as a sentinal node biopsy? A mole removal, where the biopsy comes back negative, should not result in any swelling that I'm aware of. Especially 3 or more weeks after the procedure.

With the absence of heart problems or diabetes or medication, the only thing I might think of is some sort of water retention. But then, you would have the condition in both feet normally, not just one.

As far as a doctor to see, you might want to call the doctor who did the biopsy. (I'm not sure if that was a dermatologist or your primary care physician?) Perhaps you could tell them over the phone what is going on, and if they feel they need to see you, you can go in. They may refer you elsewhere.

This is a bit strange, but I'm sure there is something very easy to remedy at the heart of it.

Re: swollen foot from skin biopsy

Hello, I had what they call a shave biopsy done on a flat brown mole. The biopsy came back as pre-cancer and when the wound is completely healed, I will have a spray put on t to freeze the rest of it off. I did have the skin dr. take a look at my foot and she thought it was from the procedure of the biopsy. I'll give it a few more days and see if the swelling goes down any. If not, I'll pursue it with someone else. Sometimes it hurts to walk on it and then other times, there isn't any pain. Thank you for replying to my message.
