Question Rapid Development of 100 + New Moles

I am 27 years old. I have has some freckles and moles since I was a toddler. I believe a lot of it is due to a lot of sun exposure as a child and most of them came on gradually and stopped by the age of 18. Now I am 27 and I recently developed 60+ moles within a month. It has been a couple of months and I have continued to develop more. Some are light brown, some are black. Some are very tiny while others are average sized.

I cannot find much information on WHY someone would SUDDENLY develop so many moles in a short period of time. Does anyone with skin cancer experienced this before? Has this happened to anyone else? What is causing it?

Re: Rapid Development of 100 + New Moles

I have gotten a lot of new moles over the last couple years- are you sure yours have all come on in just a month or did you maybe just not notice all of them before? I would go to the derm to be safe.

I just had a derm appt and asked her about a lot of new moles I have and she told me it is normal to develop new moles as you get older.

60 seems like a lot in a month- so maybe just make an appt to put your mind at ease?

Re: Rapid Development of 100 + New Moles

I develop the majority of them in Oct. Nov. of 2009. I developed about 60 of them at that time and I have continued to develop more. I had some before, mostly in sun exposed areas. I never had any on my torso, tights, breasts, lower back, etc. but now I do. They are definately all brand new. Hmmmm......it is the only thing that bothers me is moles. Ugh.

Re: Rapid Development of 100 + New Moles

I had a melanoma removed in March 2007. I am 50 years old, and am constantly getting new moles. The problem for me is that, at my age, this should have stopped about 10 years ago.

See, at 27, you are at a prime age when moles develop and grow. This will probably continue for another 10 years, and then - hopefully - will taper off as you reach 40. The reason I am developing more moles at my age is because of my experience with skin cancer, so that is outside of the norm. But, on average, people develop moles from adolescence through their 30s. Once they reach their 40s, mole development pretty much slows down or stops.

If you notice any moles that look "odd," or displaying any of the A B C D E's of melanoma, be certain to have it checked by a dermatologist!

HI, I'm new to this forum, and found your post on google. I'm 28 and have similar mole findings. all over. It makes me a bit anxious and worried, so I'm wondering if there have been any changes or follow up information regarding the widespread emergence of moles you experienced a while back.

Really good to see that i'm not alone.

Hi Alexa,
I agree with others that you should definitely go to the derm and get examined! Cuz, of course, they can turn out as simple moles, but they can be malignant too! Therefore, most definitely get checked!

Re: Rapid Development of 100 + New Moles

Alexa, Stabevrian, JohnLyn,
Hope you are all doing well. I'm in the same boat as you are. Had 5 moles all my life and suddenly in last few months got 70 new ones, and some are growing fast. needless to say, I'm very scared.
