how should a skin graft look?

I had MOHS surgery on the tip of my nose for BCC, they did a skin graft from the inside of my ear (ear healing very well). it was 3 weeks ago and the graft on my nose is now a scab and I don't know if that is what it is suppose to look like or if that means the graft has failed. Anyone have anything similar?

Re: how should a skin graft look?

I have had a couple of places on my nose repaired with inner ear grafts. A recent one was on the side of my nose near the tip. Like yours, my graft also appeared to scab off and I thought the surgery was unsuccessful. But as it healed further, the place looked just fine.

Don't know how it will come out in your case, but my advice is to be patient and see what it looks like as it completely heals.

Re: how should a skin graft look?

Thank you so much for your reply. I was able to get in touch with the nurse at my surgeons office and she told me the scabbing was normal healing and did not mean the skin graft had failed so I was very releived by that. I am being patient, keeping it moist just waiting for it to fall off. I just really didn't know what to expect it to look like. I had another surgery to remove BCC on my chest but that one was just stitched up. I have another to be done in November on the side of my nose and I am really nervous about it not knowing how she will have to close it up, whether it will be a graft or a flap or stitching. If I could choose, I would just have it stitched as a graft and a flap worry me. Again, I appreciate your reply! I hope all is well with you~
