Get A Yearly Full Body Checkup To Guard Yourself Against Melanoma..

I do want to add this one thread to this site....Maybe this is because I recently had my full body check up with my Dermatologist, or maybe it was because of a post that I just did here...This was writing a woman who is struggling with the agonies of this terrible disease....The fear of Skin Cancer or Melanoma is something that all of us will have to learn to live with...I know, our son had it and is watched closely every 6 months...Because of this, my husband and I also make this a annual office visit...

We are older...During my last visit I found out how much this is and has affected the older age individual...My best advice is to play it safe...If your primary doctor seems hesitant about a mole or area, please see a Dermatologist and have a biopsy done...Take care...

Excellent advice! Skin cancer isn't always big, dark colored and ugly...mine looked like my regular skin, just a little raised. GP said it was 'nothing'! If you have any suspicions see a dermatologist!

Re: Get A Yearly Full Body Checkup To Guard Yourself Against Melanoma..

I agree...Our younger son saw our primary doctor a year ago...He checked his body for any suspicious areas...Found none...Our son being concerned and after knowing how serious of a problem that this can be, waited for four months to get in to see the Dermatologist...Two areas were removed...One suspect and one where the friction from his hairline from getting it cut was causing problems...I would suggest if people are questionable to google Melanoma...Check out the images...This way they will be able to see what this looks like and what to be aware of...In plain words, "it would save your life"....Take care...

Re: Get A Yearly Full Body Checkup To Guard Yourself Against Melanoma..

I'm telling everyone I know to keep an eye on brown spots that you can't get rid of. Mine was a small, almost triangular shape on my cheek...looked like an age spot (that you'd usually see on someone's hand). I tried several laser treatments, then a chemical peel...nothing worked. There were no irregular edges, you couldn't feel it (it was flush with my skin). Thank God the physician's assistant I saw in July has a philosophy of doing biopsies on "things that don't go away". I had stage one melanoma. I now have a 3" scar on my face that I'm hoping will just about disappear by February (if not, I'm having some type of plastic surgery...it's been rough going out in public even tho' I am grateful to be alive). So, it isn't always ugly moles that are signs of melanoma.
