Does anyone know about Melanoma under a fingernail?

I had squamous in-situ a few years ago, and still have a hard time telling what skin changes are dangerous and which aren't. I recently noticed a vertical pink band running down the nail on my ring finger. The nail itself seems to have a ridge right above the band. The color stops right before it reaches the moon on my nail. I remember my derm telling me that colored bands on the nail are bad - do I need to go in b4 my regular visit? Or is the fact that the band is very thin and pink and doesn't go into the moon part make it ok?
Thanks.
