Irregular mole with perfect circular halo

I have this large(ish) mole on my chest that I've always been somewhat nervous about, however a few years ago I went to the local doctor and he pretty much laughed and said I was being paranoid for coming in for a check up and that it looked fine....

People say that they think its got larger, but I really cant tell any more as it's always been there and I haven't noticed! It's about 6-7mm, oval shaped, fairly irregular and slightly lumpy.....

Over the last three weeks a perfect circle of white skin has developed around it - I had been extra paranoid about suncream on those areas recently so i thought maybe it was because I was slathering on the factor 30 so thick i just got tanned around it, but tonight I googled a bit and have now completely freaked myself out regarding the possibility of melanoma.....

I can't get to a doctor for at least a week and I'm going crazy here now - everything says an irregular mole with a halo should be checked in case of melanoma but nowhere does it say whether the halo is ever a perfect circle or if it is generally uneven in melanomas??? I also swear the mole has got less raised and paler..... Is it possible for it to show all these characteristics of one of these Halo Nevi but in fact be a melanoma in a lumpy mole? I keep googling regressing melanoma but they all look so different to my mole - no way near as 'neat' - I guess its just the irregularity which is freaking me out - can you have an irregular/atypical mole get this harmless halo?

Help! Any info much appreciated each way so I don't go totally bonkers over the next week or so....

Amy

Re: Irregular mole with perfect circular halo

Is that Brisbane in Australia? If so you will have an abundance of medicare doctors you can go too, also Google skin cancer clinics in Australia (which is your best option) because GP's have little idea and would refer you to a specialist skin doctor if they are not sure. But most GP medical centre's can see you within the hour anyways

I recently had something removed that the doc said did not look like cancer, got the pathology back and it was a melanoma. Now I have to get a larger area cut away.

Basically you have a mole that has changed, it could be nothing, or it could be something, either way you MUST get it checked.

Stop the google searches and trying to compare, we are not experts, mne did not look like any skin cancers on the web, and well here I am with a melanoma.

Just chill, see a doctor, and if you have fair skin and sun tan to any degree, I suggest you make 6 month skin cancer clinic visits a must to just have them scan you skin and check for any changes.

When I heard the big Melanoma word, well it freaked me out. But I caught the change very early, it is sitting on the top, has apparently not gone deep to spread. So they just need to cut out a larger area of skin to make sure no abnormal cells near the Cancer can infect and spread. I am hoping they got it all in biopsy stage and this is just sweeping the path clean.
