I posted this under digestive disorders first, as I skipped this one initially, but here it goes...
I am a 23 year old male. My grandfather died of stomach cancer in his 40's (which is early for this disease). My father had ulcers from mid 20's till he died at 40 (unrelated problem). I have been having severe stomach problems since about 13. This burning would last for a week or two and then go away. It happened maybe 8 times and the last time was the summer of 2003. I have been disgnosed with H.Pylori and am waiting to see if its out of my system.
My family eats alot of hot dogs, sausages, deli meats and BBQ's alot. Last summer I was proud to say I had a steak at least once a week (about 20-25 large steaks all summer). Fat left on and made nice and crispy.
I also had a CT scan and a bunch of x-rays which also contributes to stomach cancer.
What are the chances that I WONT get stomach cancer. Looking at the risks, I will probably run into stomach cancer. Is it too late?
I plan on seeing a doctor, but would like opinions from people that have this disease or know others that have it. I am freaking out right now
With a strong history of stomach problems, I would bring it up to your doctor and determine some type of screening over the years. Cancer has been shown to be hereditary in cases. It probably means your at a much higher risk for stomach cancer then the average person. I would definately cut back on all the high fats and meats. Eat more vegetables and fruit. Burnt meat also is known to have carcinogens that cause cancer. Good luck.
I have been eating at least 5 servings of fruits and vegetables for close to two years. I am worried that the damage is already done. Also all the fruits and vegetables I eat are probably rich in chemicals as well.
It doesnt matter what has or hasnt happened, if youve been looked at already you are doing the right thing. Prevention is the best killer of Cancer of all types. In other words, even if you DID get Stomach cancer now, by starting a regular regimen of tests on a schedule that you and your doctor feel comfortable with, you can catch it early enough if it DOES occur to have a real impact on curing it. The problem with most cancers is they are found TOO late. In other words, you would be ahead of the rest ofus who wait until there are symptoms to go get checked out.
I used to be a serious burger eater, but then I found meats like burger meat and others contain Nitrates which are a carcinogen. I still eat like a pig which is bad, however I cut hamburgers and beef out of my diet almost completely. I try to eat fish or chicken whenever possible, though they have their drawbacks too.

Listen to your instincts and don't be bullied by doctors. One told my mom she had irritable bowel syndrome, learn to live with it. She went to someone else who found cancer of the stomach.
The diet you mentioned sounds high in nitrates. Nitrates are cancer causers. Our gastric juices even have nitrates so get your stomach under control. I like the natural alternatives. I take LGS, enzymes, and probiotics. These are good guys that help to rid the body of "bad guys."
