Well, first of all let me just tell you a little tidbit. Be worrysome about what illnesses you may have or could have or one day might get/having anxiety, can make your stomach problems 100 times worse. So if you can try to not think about it so much, your stomach should feel better. To be honest, that is probably why your medicine isn't seeming to help anymore... and anxiety or stress could have played a big role in why you got it in the first place. I don't know, just something that I know from experience.
Now, I think that it is a concern that always lies in the back of the head of most people with this problem. And in some small way, you should. There is always the possibility, but its not too probable. It depends on many factors, including how long you've had it, does it make you throw up and for how long, your age, whether you smoke, do you drink a lot of caffeine, and several others.
Maybe you can find out if anyone in your family has/had GERD. They might think of it as GERD so you'll have to explain what it is to them. (Most people don't know that terminology) Maybe then you can look to see if genetics has something to do with your GERD as well as maybe there was some anxiety in your family.
Just my thoughts though, just giving you advice on what i've done or know from experience.
