Can it be throat cancer?

Hello All,
I'm a 20 yrs old student. My life was all normal some three week back. I have never smoked in my life nor ever tasted alcohol. I love junk food and and spicy stuff a lot. So it happened that I was suffering from some abdominal problems and was having a heartburn about a week back when I felt a lump or like a sensation of apple peel/Chip(Weird analogy but That's the best way to describe it) in my throat. And since then it hasn't gone. It gets better few times a day but never goes away completely. My Doctor pointed out acid reflex and I'm having the medicines for it(It has been just a day of me taking the medicines) I feel slight pain in my ears too.

I'm very afraid to think of it but can it be a Cancer? I want to see a ENT specialist soon but my family would freak out I know. Can someone guide me if it really points towards cancer?

Re: Can it be throat cancer?

It's more likely not than it is cancer. It could, however, be a nodule in your throat or just very swollen area in the larynx, or a constriction in your esophagus...etc. It would be best to see a specialist who can check it out with a small scope.

Reflux can definitely cause that sensation, but it takes a while for the PPI meds to lower the acid and for the affected area to heal.

If you have an issue in your throat that's not improving, have it thoroughly checked out. Why would your family freak? Cost or that you are worried it's something more serious?

Thanks for reply. Truly appreciated. My father passed away from Liver cancer some 11 months ago so you know my mother will freak out as the loss hasn't gone well with her. So that's the reason. I have started with the Acid reflex medicines. And the lumpy feeling is not as consistent as it was before. Its just the pain in my ears which is freaking me out. I'm a very pessimistic kinda girl and overthink way too much. So May it all is just my imagination. I tend to imagine going to extremes. I'm giving my overworked brain a rest now.

Thank you for replying though

Re: Can it be throat cancer?

Hi...understandable and sad of the loss of your father. Condolences.

You should still say to your mom that your ears are hurting. What did the doc say about them?

It's good things are improving reflux-wise It could be you have a sensitivity or allergy that your ears are reacting to...or you have other issues with your neck, sinuses or eustachian tubes.
You could, however, try a sinus rinse. I use the NeilMed bottle and packet rinse system daily.

I realise how the brain can go into high gear worry.....i do it a lot. While i have chronic health issues to deal with, having the answers and treatment or whatever is the only way to ease my mind and anxiety.

Hope you feel better soon,
q
