Search the internet its a great resource....her dr should be the other resource if its been biopsied her dr should already be involved! Best wishes for a very treatable and curable outcome!
Sharon,
I had squamous cell carcinoma of the tonsil with lymph metastasis 5 years ago and I am still here to talk about it. I had a neck disection and tonsillectomy with concurrent radiation and chemo. It was no walk in the park however tolerable with pain meds, alot of rest, good nutrition and hydration. I wish your sister well.
I had a tumor in my tonsil (stageII), I finished treatment in June. Treatment consisted of surgery, full neck radiation, chemotherapy, and a feeding tube. Head and neck cancers are considered more curable than other cancers and the doctors tend to hit it with aggressive treatment for high cure rates. the treatment is NO FUN, and usually takes two months. I would be glad to answer any questions for you.
My partner has been diagnosed with throat cancer and has just started his traetment. We were warned that it would be aggressive but did not expect the side effects to kick in so quickly. He started chemo and radiotherapy on Monday last (24th Sept) and has been feeling terrible since. My main concern is that he has no appetite and all food already tastes vile. Can anyone suggest any foods that he may find tolerable? I have been giving him fresh fruit/veggie juice which contains, beetroot, carrots, radish, sauerkraut and lemon which he can manage but my worry is that he is not getting enough nutrition. I've heard that pineapple is also good but any suggestions would be very gratefully received.
sorry about your partner. i can relate. i have hypopharyngeal cancer. You are right , the Tx is no fun. The effects on my economic, social and psychological life are no fun either.
And not to bum you out, but i finished Tx a year ago, and food still taste like paper. During Tx, I would not eat for days. I suggest your friend not do that, as it is dangerous. i finnaly got myself to at least swallow nutritional drinks (Ensure, et al), blended with fruits. Here in East Los Angeles, vegetable cocktails with chile are very popular, so i indulged in those cocktails.
Good luck, and do not give up!!!!!!!!

I finished my treatment 4 1/2 months ago. My taste is about 85% back. During radiation I ate scrambled eggs, melon, yogurt, egg noodles, chicken salad, chicken soup, chowder, salads with extra dressing, pizza(yes, pizza!). That was pretty much it---and also 3 cans of prosure a day. I had a feeding tube but did not use it.
