| | Oropharyngeal cancer (HPV) and radiotherapy
Hi Im new to this message board but I am hoping someone can share their experience. My husband has throat cancer from the tonsil extending to the base of the tongue that has spread to a single lymph node. Surgery has removed the primary site with clear but small margin to the base of the tumour and tests confirmed a single lymph node involvement.
My question is, has anyone decided not to do radiotherapy? The Drs recommended treatment plan is to do the radiotherapy to "mop" up any microscopic cancer cells and as there is no tumor present this would involve a large area of the neck being treated...in case. The side effects of radiotherapy can be harse by all accounts and some are long term. So....I am trying to gain some information about what other people have done in similar situations. We are seeing the specialists and discussing with them as well. But any help/experienced advice would be appreciated.
