hi, i though my thyroid has been acting up lately (hypo on synthroid for 4 yrs), my joints, especially knees have been killing me lately. went for bloodwork for TSH, rhuemetoid arthritus and lupus. all came back fine, but i looked back a bloodwrok for about a yr ago and noticed my thyroglobulin AB was pretty high (17.9). ive read that this is an indicator of thyroid cancer???? please has anyone heard this before or is this just common w/hashimotos? thank you.
No, thyroglobulin AB---antibodies might be an indicator of hashis, not thyroid cancer.
Thyroglobulin (not the antibodies) is used as a tumor marker in thyroid cancer patients who have had thyroids removed and tissue ablated, it shows thyroid activity in the body, and if you have no thyroid tissue left, you shouldn't have any thyroid activity, thus, it's a tumor marker only for those patients, not for people with their thyroids.
