Thyroidectomy at 23
Found a nodule on my thyroid during a chest CT. Got an Ultrasound done this last Monday, saw the endocrinologist yesterday (thursday) and got told I needed a complete thyroidectomy. I have a large 4.5cm nodule (hard) on one side of my thyroid and a few smaller 1-3mm nodules. She said at this point a biopsy results are irrelevant it's so large it needs to come out to prevent breathing/choking problems that may arise. She suggested I get a biopsy since the size of it makes it more suspicious. I'm going to get that done next week.
The part that's scaring me is the fact that it's so large. The growth is now larger than my actual thyroid. Of course I'm scared thinking about being on synthetic hormones the rest of my life. I'm scared that it's "odd to have such a large growth, since large growths are conducive to cancer" All of this happened so suddenly and I've had so many other health problems.
Have any of you had similar problems?
