About to start my RAI scan protocol this week after two weeks on this wonderful diet. Shots today and tomorrow, RAI dosage (4 mCI) Wed and scan Friday. This is after a 2nd surgery to remove neck lymph nodes that had recurrent cancer (6 years after 1st surgery).
Question - has anyone been provided any instructions to safeguard family and friends after a trace dose? I've seen the instructions for therapy dose, and by comparison this dose is really small, but I worry about the safety of my wife and son. I've never had any kind of nuclear testing before, so it makes me nervous just to think about it.
Thanks and grateful for any help anyone can provide!
There are precautions, even for this small dose. They will tell you at the hospital. I remember sleeping in a separate bed for several days.
My biyearly appt. is tomorrow. I am 5 years post RAI and haven't been scanned in 2 years. I still have TG 5. I do NOT want to go on that diet or be exposed to radiation every couple of years for the rest of my life!
Hi, my son is 18 year old and was diagnostic with tyroid problems, he is taking a pill every day to control his thyroid problem, I dont have a clue what this is. A very close friend told me that is no normal for a young male to have this kind of problem, that this sickness usually leads to cancer. Im very worry and would like to know a little be more about this problem. What can I do to help my son to have a normal life. thank you.
Thyroid problems that are treated with a pill are very common. I promise---this will not lead to cancer. Your friend is very wrong. Your son probably has an underactive thyroid. The pill will give him more energy.
