| New Diagnosis: Follicular thyroid cancer
Hi,
Just had bad news today. Two weeks after a right thyroidectomy for 4cm mass, they have confirmed follicular thyroid cancer. I am a 24 yr old male. They said the other thyroid lobe will be removed in a few weeks and then after that I will have RAI treatment. He is pretty confident it will be fully treated. However he was asking at the end about any bone pains, to which I answered no. Luckily my girlfriend was there and reminded me that 2 months ago I had a lot of sternum pain, which to be fair has pretty much gone now, so maybe just costochondritis. But, if there is a worst case scenario in my family, it seems to happen. Same happened with my dad. A TIA turned into being a cyst in his brain, then they said actually a low grade tumour, then finally decided it was the very wprst grade 4 tumours you could get and died within a year. Now logically I know the chances of it being bad are very low. Survival rates are god and all that. But what are the chances of having bony metastases with this, and if so what is the treatment for them? Or are you then just on palliative treatment? Many Thanks in advance
