NEED ADVICE FOR ANYONE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM? Thyroid nodules

I am a 22 year old female and I've had a swelling in my neck from the age of 18. My doctor only noticed it about 10 months ago and I've been too busy to do anything about it. All I did was have an ultrasound and that iodine uptake thingy and its confirmed that my thyroid gland has multiple nodules.

I just need advice from people who have gone through something similar. I have time off from my studies now so I am in the process of attending to this problem: I am seeing a surgeon and we are making plans for surgery.

I was just thinking, I mean I've had these things on my thyroid gland for years now with no symptoms. Surely that's a big sign that its benign? Any information would be helpful.
I know that 9 times out of 10 it is benign but what are the symptoms if you happen to be that 1% who have malignant thyroid cancer?
Thanks!

Re: NEED ADVICE FOR ANYONE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM? Thyroid nodules

Thyroid cancer usually has no symptoms (unless it's become very far advanced, sometimes there is hoarseness), and blood work is usually normal.

It's very slow growing, and the first step would be to have a needle biopsy/fna on any nodules that are over 1cm, and then go from there to either watch them for growth or changes over time, or remove if they are either very large and/or suspicious.

Why are you having this removed? Did you have an fna? How large are these? I don't think you need to rush to remove unless there are other red flags that make these suspicious, such as the cells in the pathology.
