Low iodine diet quick help please

first thank you for all the help form everyone ,

My wife had her thyroid removed, it was cancerous.. it has been 6 months everything looks good,
she has to go for her next full scan, they want her on this low iodine diet, I am telling you she wants to follow this to a tee..

now why? for 2 weeks before her test, they said low iodine..

she has to get 3 injections for 3 days in a row, then the scan.. how critical is this diet? one more week to go by the way..

I cannot see myself, that following this strict diet, her thyroid is gone.
I have been doing a ton of research.. believe me, she will not listen, she is starving.. and she does not eat anything with salt anyway...
and I don't cook with it... and her scan the last time was great...

please advise... one note too. that is another add on to her complications she has to go for a breast biopsy.. like r u kidding...

I think her level of iodine in her system is low enough,,, to have some good cooking.. we are healthy eaters to begin with.. thanks once again

Re: Low iodine diet quick help please

It does increase the success of the RAI treatment according to studies, and it was discussed with me as a "colonoscopy prep"---you can do it without it but it's not going to be useful.

If you eat healthy as you mentioned---it's easy. It's not NO iodine, it's LOW iodine. You can use non-iodized salt if you need that. Use almond or coconut milk instead of dairy. Skip soy and cheese and really I had plenty of eat.

I had matza crackers instead of bread. I ate salads, veggies, chicken cutlets (used matza crumbs) and salad, and chocolate sorbet---I ate well and healthy and it really wasn't a big deal. You can't have soy, but you can have soy lecithin, which is helpful. I ate plenty of soup that I made and potato with no skin. For two weeks I ate healthy and went to health food supermarkets and had fun finding things.

The day after the pill I was able to go back to regular food, which surprised me. I was really happy I did it.
