Hi everyone. I just found out that I have a nodule on my left thyroid lobe. I am getting a biopsy next friday, but of course my mind is wandering since my mom and my aunt have both had thyroid cancer. In the past 5 days, I have noticed the sensation of "something stuck". I thought it might be the nodule growing and me being paranoid, but I think that is too quickly. So I look in my mouth today and notice one tonsil enlarged, and rock hard. And of course that gets me wondering if these are related. Basically my question is this: Are there any relations between thyroids and tonsils? If so, what correlations are there? Should I wait 10 days for the biopsy or just go ahead and call my endo or GP? I hate the waiting game Any help or similarities for anyone?
I have a large mass on the left side of my thryoid. I'm having a repeat FNA in a couple of weeks, the first one was indeterminate. I notice my one gland or tonsil is swollen on the right side. I don't know if it's related or not but I never noticed it before. I'm just going to wait for the repeat FNA and ask about it then.
That's great! The less waiting the better. Let me know how you make out. Don't sweat the biopsy, it's a little uncomfortable but less so than getting novocaine at the dentist - it didn't really hurt at all. It just feels weird. It's over pretty quick.
ugh It took like 10 days. I finally got so aggravated at my primary doctor that I drove to the hospital and got the results and the slides myself and then drove them to the new doctor! Then the new doctor's pathologist looked at the slides and disagreed with the first pathologist that it was benign. Which is why I have to have the repeat FNA. It shouldn't take more than a week, some come back quicker.
Turns out I was just getting sick. I had my FNA, no pain. Just a little awkward. I should find out my results sometime next week. I'll post when I get them for now, my husband and I are escaping with the kids for a weekend at great wolf lodge!
I got my results, no cancer found in the limited cell sample. They want to do a repeat in a couple months to try and get a sufficient amount of cells. Does this happen often? I feel like in many posts I have read, that it does. Let me know how yours goes!
