TSH at 56; need questions for endo

Hi! I just had a thyroidectomy Feb 6th and started taking Levothyroxine. Stage 2 - over 3cm encapsulated nodule that was positive for papillary cancer and I'm 45 yo.

I haven't seen the endo yet, just the surgeon. On Tues the 14th I see the endo. I don't know what questions to ask, and I don't understand Tg, t3 t4, or really, why TSH at 56 (my recent test) is bad. It makes me hypothyroid? I feel pretty much OK.

So I am lacking education re: this issue.

I think I'm not taking my pill correctly: I don't give it 60 or even 30 minutes on an empty stomach and I don't always take it in the morning, and maybe the dose is too small.

Help?

What's your dose of medication? You want to get your tsh to suppressed levels (under 1) to prevent a recurrence. Your endo will be the manager of the cancer, so you want a good one.

If your surgeon was like mine, he probably gave you a script for a low dose, like 75. I'm surprised you feel good with a TSH of 56. You really need to take your meds correctly. Otherwise, it will not absorb properly. And, if you have residual cancer, not being properly suppressed could cause it to grow. I am really surprised they let you go so long without an endo being involved.
