My Gram... - Cancer: Uterine Message Board

I just found out a few hours ago that my gram has cancer in her uteris. She is 84 years old. I dunno how this happened to her or why... but I just was wondering if anyone here has this type of cancer & what you had to go thru to make it go away or whatever you call it.

I am so upset right now b/c my BF's gram recently recovered from chemo & radiation b/c she had cancer in her neck or something. This time around is going to be really hard on me, esp b/c this is my gram now. I am so mad that she has to go thru this now, after living such a long healthy life... I am so sad b/c I don't wanna have to go thru this again (I know that sounds selfish - but I really don't mean it in that way, it just sux, you know?) & I am really worried about her.

If anyone can help with some info that'd be great...

BTW - if there is a cancer forum on here for that type, just let me know... I wasn't sure if this was the same as ovarian cancer or not? TY

No...uterine cancer is nothing like ovarian cancer, and the thing about it is, it carries a much better prognosis. The thing with uterine cancer is that, as long as it hasn't spread, it's very easy to just do a hysterectomy and remove the cancer altogether. A hysterectomy is a pretty major surgery, BUT, it is routinely done and people recover from it very quickly

I know it is hard, just be thankful it is not spread to the pancreas or liver. My mother is about to start chemo to reduce the size of the tumors on her liver. Thankfully for us it is localized in her liver. The gallbladder was the source and that is gone now. Chemo/radiation to shrink them then surgery or cryofreeze and other options after chemo/radiation. Be thankful if it is just in that one spot. I know it is scary(God I know) but if it is just localized be grateful,

Hi, just to let you know that my Mom ended up with uterine cancer when she was 76 yrs old. In her case they think it was because of the HRT (hormone replacement therapy) that they put alot of women her age on back when they first had menopausal symptoms.
She had some spotting and went in for a ckup right away. They did a D&C and then a complete hysterectomy and from what I was told it takes alot for cancer to break through the lining of the uterus into the rest of the body. What strength that keeps a baby in for 9 months also seems to keep the cancer from spreading out very easily either.
She has had tests now for two years and everything looks great.
Hopefully the same will happen for your Grandma -

My great aunt had uterine cancer when she was in her early 70's. She had a hysterectomy, and then went on to live until 87.

Hopefully your Gram will have equally good luck. If she's in otherwise pretty good health, there's no reason that she can't have a hysterectomy and recover fully.
