Prolonged severe bleeding - Cancer: Uterine Message Board

Hello,
About 7 days ago, I began having severe right sided groin pain that radiated down my leg and up into my ab. 2 days later, I began bleeding so heavily that I literally soak through my clothes sometime every 15 mins to at least 30 mins now for 7 days. I passed multiple fist size blood clots.
I am already treated for severe anemia, and Friday I was down to 8.4.

I was prescribed "Megace", 20 mg once per day to stop the bleeding, but it seemed my Dr. did not realize just how much I was bleeding...he didn't seem to listen. I am really scared.
Yesterday was my first dose, I stopped bleeding one hour after taking for about 8 hours, and then it began as heavy again. SAme thing today. It seems to have stopped one hour after taking....but will it return later again.

Has anyone heard of Megace for heavy bleeding, and I am really worried about my hemaglobin...very very tired. I also am afraid as I have many spider veins and my leg veins swell and burst occasionally, so I am afraid of clots.

My biggest fear though is the bleeding, my hemoglobin. and how long can you go before you go into shock, and how soon will the megace kick in permanatly, and lastly, what caused this...and what is Megace.
My GYN said probably an inovulatory period. I have always had thickened uterine lining too. My period was not due for 2 weeks.

I am so sorry you are going through this frightening experience. I think you've had enough bleeding and if the megace was going to do something, I'd think it would have stopped the bleeding by now. If it were me..I'd go to the ER. Did you actually see your doctor to get the script for megace? How old are you?

I think often docs overlook women and their symptoms and just brush it off as hormonal, menapausal, or some other reason. You have had too many days of much to much bleeding and since you already know you have anemia...go. Get someone to take you and go. This can be taken care of and the sooner the better.
