Worried about my mom!

My mom is 56 and she has been postmenopausal for many years. She recently has had urinary tract infections and just recently started bleeding really bad. She went to the ER and they did an u/s they found that her uterine lining is very thick. She thinks it had to do with the IUD she had implanted years ago and which caused scar tissue. She had a DNC and then got pregnant with me. That was 29 years ago. I'm really worried about her and they also found a polyp too on the u/s. She has a biopsy next Thursday and I am worried sick. She wants me to take her and I'm trying to be strong. Can this be anything but Uterine Cancer? I also want to mention she has very high blood pressure and is overweight which I have read that this is common with woman with Uterine Cancer. I'll take any advice or even prayers that her results are negative. I've been trying to get pregnant for the last 3 years with no luck and found out I have severe endometriosis and all this attention has been given to me by her. She has been my rock and I want to be her's too!

Re: Worried about my mom!

Hi there,
Just read your post. Can I tell you from lots and lots of experiences with my own mother....that you can never assume the outcome of something. It just stresses you out. No one can tell you not to worry but at least accept the fact that it is not a for sure thing that it is cancer. I have been through so very many of these "scares" with my mom. I have been so nervous about biopsies, and scans, xrays, ultrasounds, and except for one time, they all came back fine. My mom has had breast cancer twice. She recently had surgery to remove some calcifications. These can signify breast cancer so while we were waiting for her biopsy I was petrified, that these would show up as a sign of her cancer coming back a third time. How could I not? It could have turned out that way, but it didnt. My mom also had a colonoscopy done, they found two polyps, but they came back okay. So my advice to you......is to take a very long deep breath, and pray for a good outcome and just be there no matter what. What is going to happen will happen and you will deal with things, either way, trust me!! I will pray for you that it turns out to be something they can just give her some medication for or something not too difficult to get through, and not what you are worried about, because I know all too well, it's really hard. You can get through it, she can get through it, and you'll do it together, trust me, I know.
I hope you'll post again with her results and if you would like to talk about things, I would be happy to listen as I have way too much experience in this and would be happy to help someone through it.

God bless,
******

Re: Worried about my mom!

Well, my mom went for her biopsy today, but the OBGYN did not due it. She reviewed her ultrasound results from the ER and said her endomertial lining is way too thick. She wants to schedule a D&C. She really thinks it might be cancer. If that is the case why don't they just do a hysterectomy than have to do a D&C and then if it is cancer she will then have to have another surgery to remove her uterus. I think her lining was in the 12s. That's bad isn't it? I'm really scared but trying to stay song. Thank you ****** for responding to my post. I didn't think anyone would. Your words of encouragement have meant a lot. I guess I will just keep praying.

Re: Worried about my mom!

I just called my mom and now she went to the doctors for a bladder infection. They found blood in her urine and put he on an antibiotic. She keeps getting them and I am worried that the doctors are not being aggressive enough getting her in for surgery. I truly believe it has to do with the fact that she has an HMO. I'll keep praying. Any advice would be great.

Re: Worried about my mom!

Hi JSquared...
I know this is a tough time for you and your family. I have been there, not with the same symptoms but the same worries. My mom also at some point had to have a D&C - I am embarrassed to admit, I dont remember why she had to have it. Sad to say, we have been through so many tests in the last few years, I've lost track - isnt that awful? But she had a biopsy and couldnt stand the pain, so they couldnt finish the procedure...so they ended up doing a D&C. Everything was fine, but they were making sure there was no abnormal cells in there. But it's so very scary waiting.
When you say "she" really thinks its cancer, who do you mean? Your mom, or the doctor? If it's your mom, let me please give you some advice. My mom has had it twice, and I can tell you, unless someone tells you that's what you have, do not assume it. There are so many things that can be wrong, it is not always cancer. Cancer is what we all worry about, but not every problem results in it.
Let me tell you a story. As I told you my mom has had it twice. Once we were on vacation together, to see my relatives. Upon our return home, she was scheduled for a colonoscopy because she had been having some discomfort in that area. So......one day while on vacation, she found some blood in her stool. Well, what on earth would you imagine about that? Pain in that area, and now blood. Of course it must be........... So we sweated through that test and results and everything was fine. Do you know what caused the blood in her stool? The day before she had taken some imodium because she had a bit of diarrhea....and it said right on the package...."may cause blood in stools".....who knew? If only we had read that package, we could have saved so much anguish and worry.
Story #2 - my mom went for her regular X-rays....was called back because the technician said he detected "some form of disease in her bones"....what else would you think? Oh my god, it spread to her bones now. Nope, guess what it was? A fracture......(because she has osteoporosis).
Moral of my two stories......you wont know until you know!!!! Brace yourself, but dont presume a negative outcome, it's very stressful and I've learned not to do it now.
I dont unfortunately know much about the uterus area, but I would say that it would be okay to wait until she finds out what the issue is. If all is well, then a hysterectomy would have been unnecessary and it's a really big surgery and takes a long recovery. Just take one day at a time...and hopefully once you receive the results, they will be something relatively simple and fixable and you can put this behind you. Like I said, just brace yourself, no matter what, you will get your mom through it. I'll tell you something, you're a lot stronger than you think, and you will not know how strong you are until you are put to the test. That's how it works. I hope and pray you dont have to find out right now. I'm so very sorry for what you're going through because I truly understand. I'm here to listen anytime. Please keep me posted and I will say a prayer for you and your mom. Just take deep breaths, and although I know you'll worry, just sit tight and wait for the results.
Wishing you all the best....
******
