Im a 41 yr old mother of a 22 yr old and 13 yr old. About 5 yrs ago I started to have abnormal vaginal bleeding. At first the doc gave me injections of Depo, then perscribed Magace...the bleeding continued. I had my 1st D&C 4 yrs ago and a second 11 months after that, the bleeding never subsided. I should mention, the bleeding lightened after the Depo injection but only lasted for about 10 days. I continued to bleed daily...21/2 yrs ago I agreed to ablation, which the doc assured me would alliviate my symptoms. I never stopped bleeding. Within the last year my symptoms have gotten worse...extremely heavy bleeding with clots, Im tied all the time, pelvic and back pain, feel bloated, gassy, shortness of breath, lightheadedness. Ive had ultrasounds, sonograms, hysteroscopy and endometrial bipopsy. My pap came back normal with endometial cells present on cervix, with no other explanation. No mention of results from ultrasounds/sonograms except extreme thickening of uterine cavity. Hysteoscopy showed no polyps and looked clean, except for possible scarring from ablation. Doc messaged me and said "good news...biopsy looked good" but wants to see me to discuss placement of IUD. Wouldnt a hysterectomy be my best route??
Wow, you have been through a lot. Bless you, I know you are so tired and sound like you really need relief.
So things like fibroids or endometriosis have been ruled out? If he wants you to have the IUD, he is worried about the possibility of a pre-cancerous condition indicated by that thick lining. But lab results should show if that is the case. I don't trust endometrial biopsies anymore after I had one that said I was clear and right afterward went in for a D&C and it came back positive for hyperplasia w/atypia (ie precancerous). I thought ablation really helped a lot with cases like yours. The IUD would kind of put you in a semi-menopausal state and suppress the bleeding to a large extent, so it could help. But having a hysterectomy may be a case of not IF but WHEN. I know it is hard to think of it, but if nothing ends up working, you may need to consider it.
thank you for your reply...my apt is next week so I have tons of questions for the doc...Ive researched IUD's and seen it could cause heavy bleeding in the beginning, this is something I dont even want to consider...Ive had enough. I was told there was no polyps or fibroids..just dark areas which they assume are scars from ablation. My biggest concern as of now, I feel like somethings wrong...more than they have explanations for. I'll keep you posted amd again thanks for your reply.
