Thickened Uterine Lining - Doomed?

I just got a call from the physician assistant who ordered an ultrasound for me because of my complaints of pelvic pain for the past month. I also had some UTI symptoms for which they treated me for, even though they said the urine same was negative. The first words she said were that I needed to have a biopsy. I thought and prayed she would have said everything was okay. But a biopsy? She said my uterine endometrial (sp) wall was thickened. I asked her if I should be scared, she paused and exhibited concern, and told me, "Not yet, wait and see what the biopsy showed' This is all I can remember her saying. I was at work and shaking. I am scared to death!!!!! I just had results from my pap and full blood lab, and everything was normal, with the exception of elevated chloride, which she said could just be a sign of dehydration. I had a cervical polyp removed a few years ago, but they couldn't get it all. They did a biopsy on that and said it was fine, no cancer. Are they looking for cancer in this order for a biopsy? Could the thickened lining be normal??? I have hypothyroidism, could it be related? Am I doomed? I am wondering what i am in for if the results came back abnormal. What will that mean? I have an achy pain inside for about 2 weeks, then when my monthly comes, the pain goes away, after monthly goes away, the ache comes back. I feel it inside my what I think to be cervix area (that far up), and an occasional pain on the outside of my vaginal area, both sides. No spotting though, no discharge, 28 day cycle. Sorry for the long and graphic post, praying for some support. I just found this site. My head, heart and body feel like they are going to literally explode. Thank you in advance for replies and support. Biopsy is Thursday. I am 45, have 4 grown kids, and 6 wonderful grandkids whom I love dearly.

Re: Thickened Uterine Lining - Doomed?

HI. i just was dx with. I have had cervical dysplasia over the years and abnormal periods. warning signs. i began to bleed badly then it stopped and it began again. i had this and uterine fibroids all benign. if the biopsy is ok you may be given some meds to help slough it all off. get info on iron because you will need. i got very anemic. but it is all out and done. this is very common in middle age and peri and menopause. i was freaked too then i felt better. they do not know unitl they see the biopsy.

Re: Thickened Uterine Lining - Doomed?

Ps do some net seaches on this how common it is. i had cysts in the ovaries and cervic and the hyperplasia as it is called and the fibroids. had pain off and on but not that bad. many women have this but have no problems. you felt the UIT pressure because of the enlarged uterus.
everthing is pushing down on your bladder. i can stand up easier with all that stuff washed out now. i kid you not! right before I got dx i had other bad health news so this was no big deal but. i had a hard time laying on one side. you could the thing shirting to one side because it had gotten so big. drove me nuts. all gone!!1

try the meds first over surgery unless it is severe. not a fan of hormones but that is wha tthey gave me for 3 months. worked well. no more pills no more pain.

Hi Caring, thank you for your reply. You first sentence seems to have been cut off. :I just was dx with." Are you referring to the dysplasia? I had that 13 years ago, they did a leep, and my paps have been normal since. I am wondering what the biopsy is going to show. Scared out of my mind. I don't want to go through, or have my family go through cancer. I was caretaker of both of my parents who died if pancreatic cancer all within a year and a half of each other.

Re: Thickened Uterine Lining - Doomed?

I cut off words when I type. lol sorry!

If you had the dysplasia too that is a warning for this. I did some research. Mostly likely they will not find it cancerous. I lost 4 ppl to panc reatic cancer in one year inlcuding my mom. SO i am very vigilant. My elderly family members had grown up near the first nuke bomb test and smoke and drank and doing both can add to the risk of getting pan cancer.

I feel your fear. I freaked more over the dysplasia thing. i was in my 20s.
I am in my 40s now. I read that the fibroids and hyperplasia happen in like 60 percent of women in perimeno. But many never symptoms minus those who had irregular periods. I used to think how nice not to have one every month. dr said no this is a bad sign since the uterus is not sloughing off.

for me i was sad and worried then just sait was in gods hand see htis past year i had been dx with a potassium kidney problem then 2 later had a heart attack. glucose shot up thyroid was out of whack. glucose is back to normal not diabetic thyroi was a fluke. got dx with pacs and pvc and a tachy heart. so i thought what now why me god. then i thought well even if it is cancer just go out not worry and live my life.

the fear will get you more than the actual dx. it will take a couple days to get the results. go out and keep busy until then. try to keep your mind off it and i hope that it is bening. most cases are.,

Thank you! SO what you have is non-cancerous? What exactly is your dx with regards to the uterus?

hyperplasia. i do not have ins. so i opted for a drug i could afford. depo pills and it slought it all out. uterine fibroids. that was to start. i had more lol!

have you been feeling a pressure down there especially on your pelvis at times or tail bone? i was and since it sloughed offi feel better. warning if they go that route you will bleed and you will see big long parts of tissue coming out. when it came out i was like how can this all be good? but it is.

Shoot! Because you didn't have insurance you had to take less care? That is sad. Pressure feels like up inside like my cervix. Sometimes in my vagina area, outter lips, but inside) (sorry for graphics), and MAYBE my tail bone. It goes away once my monthly hits, and last month, the first day of monthly was, sorry, more graphics here, almost like dried up blood coming out, and dark dead looking stuff for first day or two, then third day, normal color flow, then 4th day, gone! I usually on have 3-4 day periods anyway. I also have gassy stomach every day. I just wonder if my polyp grew back or if they see part of what they couldnt remove (different doctors) and think that it is a mass or something. Although she specifically said thickened endometrial lining. She said it was beyond her scope. She is a physician assistant. I pray I don't have cancer. I am going out of my mind. I should have just went to a gynocologist to begin with! Take care!! Thanks bunchs for your support and replies.

Re: Thickened Uterine Lining - Doomed?

your pain was my discomfort. tail bone stuff was waking me up. got worse before it was dx.
i had insurance for years but i have a disabled child so i cannot work full time. i do work but no benefits.
the thickened endo is just like what they saw with me. a pa saw mine then sent me to an obygyn here. local hospital and isnur. corp together had a pay as you go thing. 40 for the ultrra 40 for the obgyn. first med she gave me was like 200 bucks. so we settled on the depo.
it means you have a higher level of estrogen and had low progesterone.
i had been on prog meds before. a chemical dc. that lip pressure was getting bad. they also saw two ovaraion cystets and 2 uterine fibroids and some nabothian cysts on the cervic. the nab is like a pimple. lol

the biopsy is quick. hurt a tad more than the cervical ones. take a day or 2 then you will now. i hope it is not cancer. buti know how you feel. i thought ok now what GOD. i thought gee i should have abused ,my body! i keep telling the family i am going to start drinking, carousing and be bad. being good to my body has not helped lol. i had to find humor out of all this or I was going to get really down. i am like you worry to death. this actually helped me realized i have to work harder no not doing that.
let me know the resuts. do not do what i did. go looking at pics on the net, saw that and the fibroids. freaked myself out!

My husband works his butt off too, and has no insurance. Poor guy is 52 years old. My insurance would cost $435 a month to put him on, I cant afford that. I have not looked at pictures yet, I will take your advice, but boy have I been googling the heck of thickened lining. Thank you for your prayers! Im sending some your way!

I feel like I won the lottery!!! I went to the specialist who read the ultrasound results and said that I did not need a biopsy, the ultrasound was normal, the lining was thick because of the time of the month that they did the ultrasound!!! She did a pelvic exam, a pretty thorough one, I would have kicked her had I not just been given a new lease on life, but she twisted everything around and found the pain that I was having. She knew what she was doing, did it again to confirm, and found that the pain was on my right ovary, an infection, so gave me two weeks of antibiotics. She said my uterus was a little big, but I have had 4 kids and stretched it out. The Physician Assistant just did not know how to read the sonogram. And I only blame myself and have learned from this. When I called to make an appointment with my doctor ( A male) I always ask for a female for these type of appointments, so they ask me if a PA is okay. I say yes. NEVER AGAIN! See a true gynocologist! Male or not. I think vaginal ultrasounds should be as routine as the pap smear. Take care of yourself.

Good news. Mine was dx by gyno and patholigist. See, i figured it would not be cancer. fear can get to you. sounds simplistic but true. i had 2 kids so it can happen no matter the no of kids. getting a thickened uterus is not always cancer. congrats!

Not so good. Still in pain, nothing different, only worse. My problem is pain right in the middle of my pelvic area, feels like uterus area. It goes away on the first day my period, my period lasts 3 days, and then the pain comes back. Just went through it. And on the first show of the first day of my period, it is a bunch of what looks to be like old, dried, flaky, dark blood, after that, flow is normal. I just want to feel normal again.

Re: Thickened Uterine Lining - Doomed?

I hope everyone's tests come out OK. I am 35 years old and have been told that I have a thickened endo lining and a complex cyst on my right ovary. I have been very concerned as my Mom had a hysterectomy a few years ago for massive fibroids, but Thank God no cancer. I have to now go on the 28th for a biopsy. I am scared as cancer runs in the family, just not any of the female ones. I went to the OB/GYN because I hadn't had a period for almost 7 weeks and I am every 30 days like clock work before now and usually last 7 days. When I finally got mine, it was abnormal flow and only 3 days. Like others I have seen, i have cramping outside my cycle and lower back pain. The doctor hasn't even talked to me much about the cyst because she seems to be focused on the lining issue. I have also had alot of unexpalined weight gain in past 6 months. Just really worried as I have a 5 & 7 year old at home! Any advice or help is greatly appreciated
